Yesterday was the last day of the 2007-2008 school year.  I suppose that means Caleb is now a 2nd grader!??!?  Dean let him take the digital camera to school w/ him and he took Last Day of school year 2008pictures of his classmates and the principal!   I was quite impressed with the pictures he took.   Today was the first day of spring break, and the day our friends were heading for home.  So this afternoon I took the kids, including my friends son and ourFirst Day of Summer break 2008 neice- so 5 kids total, to the zoo.   I came home wiped out, so much so that I fell asleep after making a side to go w/ dinner and didnt wake up until Dean told me they were leaving for Caleb’s baseball game.   No big weekend plans but hoping to get in some swimming since it is going to be in the 80s.  I would have loved to go today, I was drenched in sweat at the zoo!   So summer if officially started, so far so good I suppose.   (more pics up on flickr, including ones of Zekes first bigger kid type rides, he even went on his first rollercoaster this week.  I was sooo scared!)

Friday, for the start of the holiday weekend, Dean took off of work to help out since I was still in pain from my foot.   That evening we attended an appreciation party for the tech Ethan, Zeke and Boteam members at church, which was a lot of fun!   Around 4 a.m. that night/next morning, our friends from Balto. arrived for a visit.   We spent the next day hanging out and on Saturday evening we, the adults and Zeke(since he threw up right before we left), went to Amy & Dean at the drive inthe drive in to see Indiana jones and Iron Man.   It was a lot of fun, highlighCaroline & Mikets included the van’s battery dieing and Caroline and Mike getting stuck for a good amount of time at the snack bar because they lost their order!!   Sunday we went to church then in the afternoon had a houseful of people, including lots of kids, for a game day.    We got to bed late again so we let our friends sleep in on Monday morning while we took the kids out to the locDSCF0097al DSCF0093memorial day parade in which Caleb got to ride in the back of a pickup truck in w/ his baseball team.     We took the rest of the day pretty easily and relaxed while the kiddos played outside.   It rained some but cleared up enough to eat dinner out on the deck.  This morning Dean went to the last awards assembly for Awards AssemblyCaleb’s first grade year of school where he received two awards.   We had a lazy early afternoon but after naps aKrohn's Conservatorynd school Krohn's Conservatorylet out we went to the butterfly show then drove to nearby Ky. to a skyline chili so our friends could experience it for the first time!   we then headed back towards home and the “root beer stand” for dessert before heading home to tuck the kiddos in bed.  Since then Dean and I have worked on laundry and our friends started playing some board games which we plan to join after prepping lunches for tomorrow’s trip to Kings Island!!   it’s been a great visit and reminds me how much we miss our friends in MD.    It’s  a shame Mike just got a job in D.C.!!   oh well, I guess being a military doctor is a good decision! (lots of great pics on my Flickr account!!)

ugh….I dont do ‘laying around” well.   So I got up to eat breakfast and take my medicine.   I saw the house and was reminded of what needs done for the incoming houseguests….so I started cleaning up some.  I didnt do much and even before I started I felt drained, completely wiped out.   Dont know if it’s a side effect of the medicines or the infection, but I feel like going back to bed.   I am going to shower, change the dressing on my wound and go lay down again.  I havent felt this wiped out in a while….I hate it!!! I am not a lazy person and doing nothing makes me crazy!!   Dean’s at least taking care of some things that need done, which is awesome, but I doubt he’ll clean bathrooms or mop the floor, but who knows, there might be hope I’ll feel better after a nap.  My goal is do little bits of work, rest, more work, rest……right now though all I feel like doing is the rest part.   Amazing how a stupid toy motorcycle caused me to feel so horrible! the really ironic part is I believe I bought said toy at walmart to keep Bo happy on a shopping trip.    that’s what I get for making my kids happy!

My foot feels a lot better this morning.  Walking isnt as nearly as painful and the swelling is down some, wohoo!! the place where I got the tetanus shot hurts a ton though, the nurse warned me about that and she was sooo right!  I havent been up and out of bed yet except to go to the bathroom but I’m hoping that it continues to feel even better as the day goes on.  Amazing how just one dose of each antibiotic did so much so quickly!   Off to take some more  meds and enjoy the fact I guilted Dean into staying home today!! (I really should have gone to the dr earlier than I did and could have prevented all that pain I had or at least stayed off my foot more yesterday)  House guests coming tonight, not sure if I’m up to getting the house ready for them or not, guessing the latter.

My day in a nutshell:

wake up

PAIN

go to work

PAIN

come home

PAIN

decide to have my friend look at my foot for her advice, dedcide to call the doctor

PAIN PAIN PAIN - puncture wound in foot not conducive to playing outdoors w/ toddlers

Called doctor, advised to go to ER

waited a bit, picked up Dean while my friend watched the kids and went to the ER

diagnosis: puncture wound and lymphangitis

treatment: two courses of antibiotics and a tetanus shot, after having a really fast xray and results of course

in and out in about an hour!!

now we’ve picked up pizza for the kids and I’m hoping to lay in bed and watch lifetime movies and stay off my foot

it hurts SOOOOO bad

I had a fever and high blood pressure, she said infection sets in fast, and I couldnt believe it but I know that the swelling and redness has gotten worse in the last few hours and so has the pain so wohoo!! next time I get a puncture wound in my foot I guess I better see a doctor w/in the first 8-10 hours ( my primary care doctors office gave me the riot act for waiting so long and said it was probably too late for stitches if they were needed)

oh well….the ER dr said once the infection starts to clear the pain and swelling should go away so pray that is quickly!!

OWWWWW

I just pulled one of the kids die cast motorcycles out of my foot. I was barefoot and carrying a freshly bathed Zeke to his room to get dried off and dressed and it went INTO my foot. It hurts like heck. Praying I dont need to go get a tetanus shot or stitches, really praying I can walk fine on it tomorrow!! as of right now I’m almost willing to let the sink full of dishes sit, that’s how badly it hurts! (and I’m sitting!)

EDITED To add: and then I went to the garage to put my favorite crockpot there and after putting it on the shelf and walking away it and it’s glass lid fell and the lid shattered!! dont think you can cook in a slow cooker w/out a lid?!?!  Dean thinks I can order a replacement, but God I love that thing and am so bummed about it!

It’s been a bad day overall.  Zeke has fallen A LOT, and the result is some badly damaged knees, not his first or last but it was my fault for letting him wear sandals w/out orthotics so he kept stumbling and his legs were bleeding and raw from all of the falls.  Poor thing!  I am praying we all wake up tomorrow feeling better and that things continue to improve!!

DSCF0054last night we took the boys to get haircuts, everyone but myself got a DSCF0049haircut.   This morning I was supposed to meet some friends at the Krohns conservatory butterfly show but was running late and when I did arrive there were no parking spots available and 3 buses full of field tripping school students DSCF0051were unloading! Needless to say I was not in the DSCF0046mood for that sort of craziness after having gotten lost and not being able to find close by parking, but since we were out and had a packed lunch I took the boys to the zoo until it was time to pick up the big kids from school.
