Another day….another doctor appointment, or three.
So this morning I went to the podiatrist because my foot was still bothering me, mostly during and after exercise and at night and first thing in the morning…ok a lot of the time but not ALL of the time. We talked for a bit, have I mentioned how much I like this doctor, but I digress..so after chatting he decides to take an x-ray, in the office which was great time wise! results in 4 minutes! and even better he let me see the x-ray and explained it to me, I love any doctor who involves me in this process….way too cool. I will probably enter into med school sometime in my lifetime just because it’s so cool! but anyway….so the fracture is healing fine, he thinks I’m just overdoing it too much too soon, AS IF! :-) but the fun part was when he starts to explain the arthritis and bone spur on the x-ray. the arthritis wasnt all that cool looking, as I would have thought. So he said and the best view of the bone spur issue is here and shows the side view of my foot on the x-ray. Not only do I have one bone spur which looks jagged and sharp, BUT the kicker is that there is another peice of bone fragment which is a bone spur that broke off and is just sitting there in my foot. He thinks that is why the cortisone shot didnt really last long, since it wont help w/ that pain. He said I will need surgery at some point to remove the broken off bone fragment and to take the other newer bone spur off as well. the issue is when? the recovery is 8 weeks, the first week is completely bed ridden, or rather no weight bearing at all. the second week I start to wear a brace(or boot like I have been) and then continue to increase my activity as much as I can. I am not feeling as bad as I was pain wise before, well I was last night but this morning it’s doing tons better but I havent been up and walking around a lot. So we need to figure out if we should wait to do the surgery or just go ahead and do it so I can be painfree overall sooner than later. He said it was good he took the x-ray because know we know how bad it is, I laughed and said, yeah now I know why it hurts so sticking bad. kind of looked like a splinter, the broken off bone spur, no wonder I lay in bed and am in incredible pain!
Bo and Caleb see the ENT this afternoon…til then we have swim lessons and hopefully the boys will nap.
