Wisdom from my walk

Those of you who have met Ginger know that she’s the BEST dog out there.  Today before leaving for church I put her out, in the busyness of getting 3 kids and ourselves out we must have forgotten she was out.  so we went to church, then out to lunch, then to the store….we came home and our wonderful dog was just sitting on the porch waiting for us!  I dont know any other dog who would have just waited for us to come home.  Thankfully it wasnt that cold out today, but I feel absolutely horrible about it.

The forecast is calling for 9-15 inches of snow total by tomorrow.   Dean got sent home from work around noon.  Caleb’s school got an early dismissal for 12:45 so we all went to pick up Caleb then to mcdonalds so we could get out of the house one more time before being stuck in for a day or two.  Thankfully we have no plans for the weekend so we’re going to enjoy it.  Not to mention we got cable again yesterday complete w/ DVR and hi-def tv on the big screen, wohoo!! Lost was amazing in hi def on the big tv last night!

In other news, Zeke has decided he wants to go on the potty all of the time!! so far this morning he’s gone potty and had dry diapers.  Just now when I was getting him ready for nap I was checking his diaper and it was dry so I asked him if he needed to go potty and he said yes.  So he peed on the potty.  Before I got a diaper back on him the phone rang and I answered it.  Then he asked to go potty again, so I obliged thinking it was good for him to go right before nap if he could get it all out and sure enough he pooped on the potty!! the kid ‘s 2 weeks shy of 2 years old and he’s already choosing to poop on the potty! I am amazed.  Pooping on the potty was the biggest challenge we had w/ the older 2!  I told Dean and my friend since he’s on a roll today I may as well keep with it these next few days since we’re going to be stuck at home anyway.  maybe we can thank the blizzard of 2008 on being able to potty train Zeke!!  I’ll let you know how it goes..but so far I’m excited, not to mention he’s initiating all of it!  My friend said I probably deserve it since I’ve already had to deal w/ potty training twice, maybe God is blessing me w/ an easy time this go around!!  🙂

Speaking of an easy time….Dean’s home, the big boys are out playing in the snow and the little man(zeke) is in bed hopefully falling asleep…so off to get a much needed nap myself only to have to get up and put away tons of laundry…but I’ll have a few days to do it since we’ll probably be stuck here at least the rest of today and tomorrow!   I am just glad Dean got sent home early so I can get a break for a day or so..maybe God figured we all needed a day off and sent us this storm…tons of places closed before the first snowflake fell.   Calebs school held out as long as they could have, too long probably.

well off to enjoy a warm bed and look out at the kiddos playing in the snow that’s still falling and will probably fall for the next 24 hours.   It’s all Carries fault for wishing it on everyone else when we were getting 65+ degrees and sun while she was stuck in the snow(just joking Carrie!)

this is sooo interesting…..or so I think!  Screws w/ the whole evolution vs creation thing a bit and I find it so intriguing!

at what point do you censor your kids homework and ask for alternate work for them?? Dean thinks I’m being nuts, but his homework always including daily reading. I wasnt around to do it w/ him yesterday so it wasnt until today I saw the book he had. It’s called In a Dark, Dark Room and other scary stories. there’s a story about a girl’s head being held on by only a ribbon and in the end she takes off the ribbon and her head falls off. There are several stories that talk about corpses, cemeteries, and ghosts. I know some of the problem may be because it’s a 2nd grade level book, and Caleb is reading above grade level so maybe the teacher didnt think it wasnt appropriate for his age. Even so…I’d prefer him not to read about such things if I can prevent it. I admit I might be going overboard with this but, I didnt think I’d have to worry about this kind of thing happening already. I know I cant protect my kids forever but I’d like to think I can!! 🙂 so when would you step in and talk to a teacher about this kind of inappropriate subject matter or when your beliefs go agains that of the schools teachings?? I know this is nothing compared w/ the trials that lay ahead when it comes to having my kids attend public school, and it’s not that horrible I suppose, but it still bothers me….

I keep forgetting to post about this….Zeke has taken an interest in potty training.   Twice this week he’s peed on the potty after telling me he needed to go!   a few weeks ago he pooped on the potty.  I cant imagine having one trained this early although I know it’s possible.  It just never happened w/ the other two.   I’m reluctant to push him since I dont want to start him so early that he has issues when he’s Bo’s age.   But…the thought of a diaper free home sure is exciting!!

Dean’s actual birth day wasnt that great.   Around 2:30 I realized since it was his birthday that the license plates on the van expired!   So he came home from work at 5 and headed straight to the BMV.   He didnt even get to enjoy the sunny 65 degree weather like the rest of us did all day.   I felt bad we didnt get to do anything special for him, but I was too tired to really care by the time he got home!!  we did watch the season finale of terminator last night and of course were frustrated with how it ended.     No big plans today either.   Just hanging out inside since it’s raining like crazy out and has been all night long!!

well I need to go..the boys have decided it’s time to get naked just because…..
