Wisdom from my walk

As I’ve mentioned before Dean is off of work again today. Mainly to take care of the kids since I’m sick. Really he’s taking care of boaz, he’s been very time demanding today.

I commented to him that the phone has rung more today than it ever does during the day, but that may have something to do with the fact that I rarely stay at home w/ the kids all day as we’re always out and about. Poor Caleb has missed all of his fun outings this week because Bo has been sick. Several of the phone calls were from friends checking in on us, a few from Dean’s co-workers and most importantly one from a Channel 2 News reporter, Kimberly Bookman. They wanted to interview Dean today about blogging because of the publicity of the missing pregnant woman, Latoyia Figueroa, due to the news catching wind of it through local Philly bloggers. Thus they wanted to interview a local Balto blogger for the Balto. news. He told them no at least once since we are all sick but who argues with being in the spotlight? So they showed up and did an interview and we’ll be on the lookout on the 5:00 news on Channel 2 to see what makes the cut. I must admit Dean did a great job and despite his thinking he wouldnt be of much help to them he was very good at defining blogging and discussing it. I guess he’s used to explaining things to his clients at work so he did wonderfully, I’m looking forward to seeing his TV debut.

It’s so interesting to me how people can connect via the internet and this is just one more way that that proves that anyone can have a voice just by having a blog. he did plug some links and I was impressed with his ease at being in front of the camera, must be the theater in him. I just pray that the reporter and camera guy dont catch our bug since they were around us today. Forgive us if you get sick, but we did warn you! 😉

Last night was fun! Wohoo!! Bo’s fever reached it’s highest at 104.3 after a day of him acting better and having a lower fever(still not under 100) He was only content sleeping if he laid on our chest and no matter how long you’d wait to put him down he’d wake up screaming. He kept waking up screaming a lot. I finally gave him some more tylenol around 2 am and gave him a drink and he slept til 7ish. he’s out again now sleeping on Dean’s chest. Dean seems a little better today, he hasnt thrown up in a few hours! Caleb had an upset stomach last night and once this morning but now he seems fine, he’s just sick of us not playing with him. I am sick now and have spent most of the night and morning so far in the bathroom. So the poor kid is bored out of his mind. Dean has missed two days of work now and he’s got a second job lined up to work this weekend, saturday night, so we’re just hoping he’s better by then so he can work and get a little extra money.

I cant beleive it’s almost August, Caleb’s birthday is soon and I had big plans for this weekend to prepare for the party but looks like I”m not going to be doing much this weekend. Did I mention my yard sale finds last week? Well if I did here goes again…I have been looking on ebay and at stores for a reasonably priced dinosaur comforter for Calebs room. His room was decorated w/ bears and abcs and it was cute but he’s in this loving dinosaurs phase and he needed a room redo so I was thinking of doing that. I found the cutest dinosaur comforter at a yard sale last week for $2! Yep just $2. Not a thing wrong with it. The lady was selling things for really cheap, my friend and I got some great deals. by the time we were done yard saling I had a dinosaur pillow for $0.50 , some dino books for $0.25 a piece and a big bag of dinosaurs for I think $0.50. He was camping last weekend so when he got home I had his books and dinos laid out for him next to his new comforter! He was so thrilled. we have since taken down the wallpaper and bear stickers on his walls so now it’s just a matter of painting, I was planning on doing that tonight and tomorrow. Unfortunately it wont happen now that we’re all sick!

I also found a puppet stage that you hang from a door way and 16 puppets all for $10. Caleb is going to love that, I put it away for his birthday present, he is going to be really excited. I had left one puppet our for Boaz to see while I was driving and Caleb kept playing with it when he got home. he loves to put on shows so this is a great birthday present for him! both the puppet stage and the comforter were things I’d been looking for for a long time and it took one day of shopping and less than $20 to accomplish buying them! I couldnt have been happier. I’d really be happy though if i could have Caleb’s room repainted before his party next week and I know with enough determination I can get it done, once I am feeling better that is!

well Gotta get back to the bathroom…TMI I know. If I’m not returning calls it’s because we’re all either sleeping or in the bathroom!

At not yet 4, Caleb loves all things that he shouldnt know how to do; like manipulating the internet(surfing via the back and forward button and clicking on links) as well as how to use our digital camera. This is a picture he took without any assistance. he’s always amazing me w/ how well he takes pics. He will immediately go into the camera to view the pic and show it off to whoever he can. I’m so proud of him, yet scared of what he’ll be able to do years from now as he gets smarter and as the world around him gets more advanced.

I have a hard time seeing my kids sick. Mostly because I feel helpless. Somehow that feeling is magnified a zillion times over when I have to sit by and watch Dean deal with being sick. The kids I can handle better, they will at least rely on me to help them feel better, for the most part. Dean’s a loner, when he’s sick he wants to be left alone and he isnt the cheeriest fellow when he’s ill. Bo woke up around 4 am because his diaper was full to capacity and he hates that. He awoke at 6 am to greet the day, he’s much more energetic today than he has been for days. I’m guessing his fever has finally broke. Dean woke up then too and since then has been very sick, all the stuff Bo had. I really dont know why I feel worse about Dean being sick than the kids, mostly I wish it was me being sick so he didnt have to deal with it. these last few bugs Dean has gotten and I dont get or dont get as badly, the stomach ones at least. it’s odd because I’m the queen of being sick. I guess it’s only fair we all have to suffer from something every now and then but I hate seeing my love be so miserable. Today ought to be fun…Boaz is geared w/ tons of energy, Caleb is still sleeping(his lethargy of late is concerning but guessing he’s somewhat sick too), Dean’s home today in bed miserable, and I feel pretty bad myself but I’ve got the kids and now sick hubby to care for. At least tomorrow’s Friday.

Boaz has a virus. Suprise suprise. He weighed in at 17 lbs even. He didnt even gain a lb from his 6 month check up. He really is tiny compared to all the other babies who were born after or around his birth that we know. I am concerned about that, but we didnt see our normal dr so I didnt press the issue. we’ll see if he gains any weight before his 9 month check up w/ our regular doctor. He’s still running a fever that hasnt gone below 100 since yesterday.

the heat today is unbearable. I feel bad that I cant take the kids out more but it’s just plain nasty out there. they are predicting storms tonight after which the temp should cool off. I am praying they are right! well gotta keep the kids occupied, just wanted to update on Boaz’s condition.

For a few days now Boaz has decided he didnt want baby food, from a jar or even rice cereal. I figured it was because he preferred to finger feed himself as he would eat anything he could put in his hands and be fine with that. Today I gave him some rice cereal and he screamed. I put a little cereal in his milk, something I never would do except I was worried he wasnt getting enough nutrients. So he threw it all up, I figured it was just from it being something different in his bottle. As the day went on I had a horrible migraine and I accounted my nausea and fatigue to it. This evening after eating 3 oz from a bottle of formula and falling asleep in my arms at the Y we get home and Boaz throws up, big time. He has a 102.1 fever and is very pale. now I wonder if I really have a migraine or it’s the beginning of the flu.

we watched my friends daughter today and I asked her not to get to close to Bo since she’s recovering from strep throat, meanwhile looks like he’s the one I should have been worried about getting everyone else sick. My brother planned to visit today and tomorrow, spending the night at our house. He left after dinner to go to a ball game and met us at home after we went to the Y. He witnessed the above throwing up episode and when he heard Bo’s fever was 102 he quickly packed up and headed home! I dont blame him but it’s not often he makes plans to come, especially mid week so it sucks. Caleb seems fine and Dean had some nausea this weekend while camping so I doubt he’ll get any sicker. So it’s a mystery if I’ll get any worse or not. Poor Bo, I’m taking him to the dr tomorrow. Last week I wondered if he was sick or had an ear infection but decided it was probably nothing. Now here he is with a fever and vomitting. I feel like a failure as a mom. The worst part is I cant deal with throwing up kids. Luckily Dean was here tonight but I’m dreading tomorrow. As long as I’m not throwing up tomorrow I should be ok, but several times today I was so close to it. I really just thought it was the migraine making me sick, and it could have been but the fact it’s the first migraine I’ve had in months should have been a clue that something was off.

So all plans we had for fun tomorrow are cancelled, and I’m so bummed about it. Please Pray Bo gets better quickly and without any of the rest of the household becoming contaminated.
