Wisdom from my walk

Zeke had his first physical therapy appointment today.  Bo was so excited we were going there when we arrived because he thought he was there for him to play, but he and I just got to hang out in the waiting room while Zeke went back to the therapy rooms with the therapist.  Bo was still upset when we got home that he didnt get to play in the big playground room but Zeke did.   Stupid insurance wont pay for Bo’s stuff, not yet anyway, I talked to Zeke’s therapist, she’s going to talk to the other therapist to see what’s going on and to try to see if they reword his eval. if they’d pay for it.   I’d love to have them both go at the same times instead of sitting w/ one while the other goes back for their therapy sessions.   Zeke’s is every Wednesday from 11-12, which sucks because he’s always so tired.  Not to mention he’s starting that whole stranger anxiety mode that kids do at his age.

the report for his evaluation that I got today sounded horrible, but she warned it me it would because she wanted to insure that the insurance and the dr realized that he needs this physical therapy to prevent it from getting worse.   he got fitted for his custom orthotics today, so she’s putting that order in today.   the worst part of the eval. said that his muscles problems might indicate other problems; neurological, muscular or something else….I think If I had known that my kids were going to have problems because of my poor health and difficult pregnancies I probably woud have not had kids, I would have waited and adopted.   I hate that their problems are because of my health either during the pregnancy or just because I am their mom and it’s in their genes.

since insurance wont pay for Bo’s treatment they said we can pay out of pocket, sure, I’ve got $100/ an hour and he has to go twice a week, once for speech and once for occupational therapy.   on top of Zeke’s copays as well….I called the county agency for early intervention this week and am waiting for a social worker to call me, but I really like the therapy place we are at now, and it would be convenient to have them both go the same place at the same time….but I dont want to fork out $200/ week for 2 hours of therapy.   but I also dont want Bo to get further behind and then have problems when he’s school aged.   this is such a pain!

well the boys are napping for a short while before we have to go get Caleb, and I’m going to go lay down.  I have been really exhausted again lately   and been having some killer headaches too.   I was supposed to have a follow up appt w/ my dr this past monday but she had an emergency so it’s rescheduled for this coming Monday afternoon.   well I need to clean up lunch and hopefully at least lay down for a few minutes before the crazy bundling kids up and driving around begins again……

I’ve been waiting for this day for a few months now.  I’m outside on my deck with my laptop watching Boaz play.   Zeke is inside napping.   The sun is shining, theres a cool breeze blowing, and the birds are chirping.  No cars buzzing down the street, no sirens blaring.   No nosey neighbors.   Just the sounds of a happy toddler and nature.   I walked around our yard today, for the first time since we first came.  Looking for danger spots for Bo but also planning out spring and summer play adventures.  We left a lot of outdoor toys behind.  Last week I bought Bo a cozy coupe car off of craigslist.  Ever since he and Zeke have been fighting over it.  I think I’m getting something along those lines for Zeke’s birthday later this month.   So right now Bo’s out on the deck playing in his car.   hoping to go get Caleb a bigger bike this afternoon.     Goodness….theres so many birds chirping right now, it’s like there’s talking or something.   our deck is tons bigger than our old one in baltimore.   Sadly we left behind our patio furniture so I’m sitting on the ground.  we also left behind our grill.  guessingonce the spring weather is here to stay that’s the frst things we’ll be getting.  heck I might need to get a chair sooner than later so I can sit our here.   I cant wait to enjoy the deck and yard w/ all of the kids and Dean.   It’s going to be a great spring and summer!!  hoping maybe the weather is nice and we can enjoy the yard for Zeke’s birthday party.  well Dean just got home to share lunch with us so I’m gonna get…just wanted to share my springtime enthusiasm.  Thank God for finally warmer temps and sunshine!!

what a weekend!!  I spent all of Friday afternoon/evening making and decorating the wedding cake. One of our neices spent the night, so it was great to have an extra set of hands when getting ready Saturday morning.  While getting the diaper bags together i headed out to the van to get something and realized our new van had a flat tire!!  knowing we didnt have much time, we decided we’d drive the old van to the wedding.  the kids were all loaded up and we were ready to go, but the van wouldnt start!!  so Dean jumped it and we were finally on our way. So we went to the wedding, came home and all took a nap.   we then went to dinner and took our other neice shopping for clothes to leave at our house for when she comes to stay at the last minute, as usually is the case on weekends.

on Sunday we went to church, the service was awesome.   I felt like we were definitely brought back here for a reason, and it is beginning to reveal itself, and it’s so cool to be able to feel at home as we discover our vision for this season of our lives.   Dean spent Sunday afternoon getting the tire on the van fixed and taking our neice home.  Last night we went to dinner at a couple from church’s house.   I met her at the moms group, and find out her hubby runs a coffee roasting business.   ironically he started out with a popcorn popper, just like Dean has been doing.  so I knew we had to connect with them.  Zeke and their littlest, Julianna, share a birthday, and both were born early, I think their original due dates may have even been days apart but both were born early.   so they’ll both be turning one soon.  they also have a 2 year old, a few months older than Bo and a four year old, all girls. So our 3 boys all have someone to play with.  it’s cool to see how God can connect people.  the bad part of that visit was Zeke pulling up to stand and holding on to the glass on their pellet stove.  he’s got a nasty burn on his hand, I’m taking him to the dr this afternoon to get it checked. it’s nasty looking and he keeps hitting it on everything, making crawling hard for him too.  other than that it was a great visit.
we’re excited to keep meeting people that we know were strategically placed by God in our lives.   I’m excited about new opportunities and new friendships.   Life is still missed in Baltimore….more for me than anyone I believe but I’m hopeful now which helps.

another cool thing that happened this weekend was during church, we go to a megachurch, 5000 or so folks.  there’s a saturday evening service and 3 on Sunday morning.  due to our busy saturday we missed that one, and that’s when we like to go.   so instead we went to the 10 am one on Sunday.   during the service they ask you to greet someone you dont know..easy to do right? well I turned around and saw a familiar face.  we both stopped and were trying to figure out the connection, she’s Zeke’s physical therapist!! she looked different, her hair and make up were different, guessing done better than after spending all day w/ disabled kids!   looking forward to meeting with her every week now more than before…it’s a cool connection and so amazing in a megachurch.  it’s that kind of thing that happens that affirms to me that we are here now for this season of time at this place and I’m trying to embrace that.  it’s tough to be away from what were the comforts of home, but amazingly it’s getting easier and easier to adjust when it seems we are surrounded by lots of family and new friends.

this week’s schedule seems to be not too busy. I called to get more info about how to get Bo the speech and occupational therapy he needs through the county since our insurance wont pay for it.   thankfully they do pay for the custom orthotics Zeke is going to be getting soon.  he’s starting to go to physical therapy every wednesday for a month or two to help with his leg/feet problems.   we are waiting to see what Bo’s therapy is going to look like and how often.

well that’s about all I can think of right now…I should have been working on chores this morning but just cant get into it this morning….I just want to veg out, it was a busy busy weekend, and that drains me so much.  we’ll be visiting Baltimore for the week of spring break, just a month away…I’m so excited about it!!

my first wedding cake…a bad job at that…but considering I started shortly before 2 today and was done shortly before 10 p.m. isnt soo bad….

the smallest cake is a double layer of strawberry cake w/ a strawberry filling and vanilla icing.

I bought the single use stand thinking it was made of plastic, but once home discovered it was made of styrofoam, being short on time and experience in wedding cakes, I kept the stand and bought flowers and fabric to cover the stand.  I think the stand looks great, the cake leaves a lot to be desired, I just wasnt giving it my best I guess…might have to do w/ the year break I took from cake decorating.  My arm is sore again from the little piping I did on the cake today.  oh well…  I tried to make a wedding cake, and succeeded, if anything it is going to taste awesome!!

I took Zeke and Bo to get pics taken yesterday…they turned out so adorable!!  they even asked me if they could use there pictures for advertising and the like and of course I agreed!!  I signed the realease form, the more I thought about it I should have asked for some free pics first!

Dean’s brother and long time gal(and babies momma;-) ) are getting married this Saturday, just happens to be on Dean’s birthday.  I’m excited about it, also excited about planning a cake for it.  I havent done a cake in a while due to the pain I had been in, but lately I’ve been doing so much better with these new meds.  I was looking forward to Zeke’s upcoming birthday to make a cake but now I have an even better occassion to make one sooner.    I told Dean I probably wont make him a birthday cake though, he can just eat the cake at the wedding!

Last Saturday I went to see the Beth Moore simulcast, it was great.  I went with Dean’s mom, sister, soon to be sister in law, meanwhile all of our guys and kids hung out together.  it was a family filled weekend, it was really nice.
